It was Sophie’s birthday last weekend. She really loves water sports, and went windsurfing in Liverpool marina for her birthday… so of course her cake had to have a little surfer dude on it ….

You might remember the Christmas cake I made here… which I gave to Sophie’s mum …
…so now she might think that all I can make is penguins!
She was cute though …

It doesn’t show too well in the photo, but the surfboard had a blue marble pattern to it, achieved by not quite mixing the food colouring into the white icing completely – knowing when to stop is an art in itself!
I took inspiration from a wedding inspiration website … I’m doing a cake decorating course at my local college to improve enough to be able to make my daughter’s wedding cake next year – and I am having so much fun!
I finished off the cake by adding lengths of bashful blue satin ribbon from Stampin’ Up, which went perfectly with the icing colours … Sophie seemed to like it anyway!
And I needed a little thank you for a friend, so made a cupcake bookmark …

I love the two tags die from Stampin Up and use it so much. It’s a favourite of my friend, Ruth, too!
A punch art cupcake made with the cupcake builder punch, available at the moment in the spring mini-catalogue, fits just perfectly onto the tag. The sentiment is from the friendly words wheel stamp, which I cut up into separate sentiments. You can see a free tutorial on how to do this here.
All papercraft supplies from Stampin’ Up!
Card recipe: stamps: friendly words; cardstock: whisper white, pretty in pink, chocolate chip, real red, crumb cake; inks: early espresso; accessories: two tags die, big shot machine, cupcake builder punch, scallop circle punch, tombow multipurpose glue, stampin dimensionals.
